Earlier this week Keith Prince, Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge, contacted the Metropolitan Police regarding the sale of Hornchurch Police Station and they gave the following update:
"The sale of Hornchurch is on hold while the new Commissioner considers the impacts of his proposals for reform and improvement on the estate. If the site remains surplus the sale to LB Havering is expected to remain the way forward."
"Reviewing the Estate Strategy is a complex task with potentially far-reaching implications. We need to consider future operational factors, ways of working, budgets and timing. Work is underway in the following areas:
- Accommodating the uplift in officers within the MPS Anti-Corruption and Abuse Command who will transform the MPS ability proactively to identify, investigate and prosecute officers and staff engaged in corrupt and abusive activity.
- Delivering the strongest ever Neighbourhood Policing model to place officers into the heart of our communities.
- Making sure there are sufficient lockers and desks across the MPS Estate, in the right locations, to accommodate the uplift in Officer numbers.
- Incorporating the recent His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary review findings in relation to exhibit stores.
- Considering how future training and leadership development can best be delivered through use of the MPS Estate.
- Progressing the Mayoral police ambition of Net Zero Carbon by 2030."
Keith commented: "I am pleased that the Met have decided to put the sale of Hornchurch Police Station on hold, this is because of the increase in Police officers funded by the Government. This is part of an holistic review of their entire estate but by no means guarantees that Hornchurch Police Station is saved."
