City Hall Conservatives have uncovered a £70m blackhole in the Met Police budget for 2024/25 which threatens the Met’s reform programme.
Commenting on the Mayor’s refusal to continue to fund the Met reform programme, City Hall Conservatives spokesman Keith Prince AM told the Havering Daily: “I’m astonished Sadiq Khan is refusing to provide £70m to fund essential reforms to London’s Met Police.
“The Met’s reforms – the New Met for London Plan – is a two-year programme to deliver community policing and stamp out racism, misogyny and homophobia in the force.
“With the Met now halfway through this essential reform programme, Sadiq Khan is refusing to give the Met the funding it needs to finish the job. In case he hasn’t noticed, crime in London is out of control and trust in the Met is at a record low. These reforms are essential. They’re not a nice to have.
“This week Sadiq Khan found £30m to pay off the RMT to stop Tube strikes and announced £130m to provide free school meals for another year. Yet he refuses to fund essential police reforms. Sadiq Khan is putting his own self-interest ahead of the needs of our great city and Londoners.”
